## Step 2: Installing the monitoro extension

Simply choose your browser below, and then install our extension.

# Monitors

Monitors are at the core of Monitoro, and are essentially tools for keeping up-to-date with changes on websites. By periodically opening webpages and extracting data, monitors track updates around the clock, and based on these changes can alert you, keep your spreadsheets up to date, and automate your tasks.

# Instant Monitors

Imagine you're interested in keeping tabs on new book releases on your favorite online bookstore. Instead of setting up a monitor from scratch, you could simply pick a template designed for tracking new releases on book websites. This template already knows what to look for and how to alert you when there's something new.

You can find a variety of these monitors on the [Explore](https://monitoro.app/explore) page, tailored to monitor different kinds of updates across numerous websites, and ready to launch in an instant. Whether it's price changes, new blog posts, or product availability, there's likely a template that fits your needs. If not, just drop us a word!

Instant Monitors come with built-in alerts to get notified the moment something changes. You decide how you want to be alerted—via push notification, email, DM, or another preferred method.

But there's more, after creating your monitor you have access to:

* **Automations**: Streamline your workflow by connecting your monitor to spreadsheets or other tools. Automate data collection or other repetitive tasks to save time.
* **Customization**: While these templates come preconfigured, you're not stuck with the default settings. You can adjust what triggers an alert or what action an automation should take, making sure it fits your specific requirements.

# Custom Monitors

Custom Monitors allow users to select and track custom data points from any website using our user-friendly data selection tool. This flexibility is critical for monitoring specific elements that aren't covered by our existing templates. Learn about [creating a custom monitor](/guides/create-a-custom-monitor) here.

### **How Custom Monitors Work**

Custom Monitors is a powerful type of monitors that lets you focus on the exact information you're interested in on any website. Think of it as using a magnifying glass to closely watch specific parts of a webpage—like the price of a product, for instance. Here's how it works:

1. **Selecting Data**: With our easy-to-use extension, you can simply click on the information you want to monitor—say, the product's price. This step is what we call a "data selection." You'll give this selection a name, for example, "Price."
2. **Launching Your Monitor**: After selecting all the pieces of information you need (you can select more than just the price!), you create your custom monitor. This monitor will now keep an eye on these specific data points for you.
3. **Setting Alerts and Automations**: The final step involves adding alerts and automations. This means you decide what should happen when the information changes in a way that's important to you. For instance, if the price drops, you can get an alert or trigger an automation to take some action.

By setting up a Custom Monitor, you ensure you're always informed about changes that matter to you, without having to manually check the webpage constantly.

# Webpages

Webpages or pages are tracked by your monitors for changes. That's where data is extracted from. There is no limit to how many webpages a given monitor can keep track of. Webpages are added to a monitor either by utilizing the Link Builder (see below) or directly adding links for custom monitors.&#x20;

You can pause any monitor or link, which will stop monitoring it. Paused monitors and links do not count against your plan.

## **Link Builder**

The Link Builder is our user-friendly interface designed to simplify the process of adding webpages to your monitor. It's a table where you can input various link details, which are then used to generate the corresponding webpage links (URLs) you wish to monitor.

* **Adding rows:** You can manually enter details into designated fields, which are then automatically combined to create a complete URL, one per row.
* **Bulk Import:** For added convenience, the Link Builder also supports pasting data directly from a spreadsheet. This feature is ideal for users looking to monitor multiple webpages at once, enabling a quick and efficient setup process.

### **Link Details**

When you hear "Link Details," think of it as a recipe we use to create the perfect website address (URL) that leads us exactly where we want to go online. For example, to visit a specific Facebook page, we use a "page ID" as one of the ingredients. Each detail, or parameter, helps us construct a URL that takes Monitoro directly to the information you're looking for and allows us to monitor it for you.

## Webpages behind a login

Webpages behind a login often contain valuable information specific to your personal or business needs. Monitoro makes it possible to keep an eye on these pages without compromising your security. Here's how:

#### Secure Monitoring Without Sharing Login Credentials

Monitoro allows you to monitor any webpage that your browser can access. This includes pages that require a login. The beauty of Monitoro is that it operates without ever needing your login credentials. This method allows you to seamlessly monitor webpages that are not accessible to the general public or are behind paywalls, member areas, or any form of login requirement.

**How It Works:**

1. **Browser Integration**: Monitoro uses your browser to access the webpage. This means that as long as you're logged into the website in your browser, Monitoro can access it too.
2. **Session-Based Access**: When you log in to a website, your browser stores a "session" that keeps you logged in. When Monitoro opens the website, the browser preloads the session (and never shares this info with us!).
3. **Privacy and Security**: Since Monitoro doesn't require your login details, your credentials remain secure. You maintain control over your data, and Monitoro simply follows the session established by your browser to access the content.
4. **That's it**: Just make sure you're logged in to the website you want to monitor, and Monitoro will take care of the rest. It automatically detects changes and updates, ensuring you're always informed.

Monitoro's approach to monitoring webpages behind a login offers a blend of convenience, security, and control. It's designed with your privacy in mind, ensuring that sensitive login information remains with you while still providing the monitoring capabilities you need.

# Extractions

Imagine you're keeping an eye on a particular webpage, like your favorite online store's product page, to track changes. Monitoro acts like a digital assistant that regularly visits the page on your behalf. Each time it does, it captures a snapshot of the specific data you're interested in—this snapshot is what we call an extraction.

When an extraction occurs, Monitoro is comparing this latest snapshot with the previous one it took. This comparison helps Monitoro decide whether to trigger any of your setup automations based on the changes detected. For example, if you're monitoring a product's price and it goes up, and you've set an automation for price increases, Monitoro will spring into action based on the new extraction.

An initial extraction is a special case. It occurs automatically right after you set up a monitor for the webpage. Think of it as Monitoro's way of saying, "Okay, I'm ready and starting now!" Since there's nothing to compare it to at this point, no automations will be triggered. It's essentially setting the baseline for all future comparisons.

# How Monitoring Runs

First, make sure to learn the basics of [creating a monitor and an automation](/guides/create-a-custom-monitor).

In order to monitor webpages for changes, Monitoro needs to open these webpages on a continuous basis.&#x20;

## Where is the monitoring happening?

After installing the extension, monitoro will maintain a small pinned tab at the top left of your browser.

This is called the runner tab, and that's where monitoring happens on the Free, Basic, Standard and Pro plans. This is to ensure that Monitoro sees the same content you see on the webpages you want to monitor.&#x20;

Monitoring in your browser also enables you to **monitor websites behind a login in an absolutely secure manner** without ever sharing credentials or authentication data with us, as it's all handled by your own browser. All you need to do is to be logged in the website you want to monitor.

For Enterprise customers, we offer monitoro Cloud and custom authentication methods designed to support enterprise needs and meet its security requirements. Enterprise customers only use the extension to create monitors, while running them is completely managed by monitoro Cloud.

## How are webpages opened for monitoring?

The runner tab is in charge of opening your monitored webpages in sequence, one after the other. A webpage is opened again after all other monitored pages have been opened already, at which point that webpage is opened again.

The specific duration until a page is opened a second time depends on several factors, such as your monitor's settings, how many webpages you're monitoring and external factors.&#x20;

## Why is monitoring running on a continuous basis?

You might be wondering, "this webpage only changes once a week, I only need to monitor it once every week. Why should I monitor it every day?". Here's the kick, if your weekly monitor misses the update by one single minute, you will be notified *one whole week later*.&#x20;

This is why Monitoro emphasizes frequent monitoring.  Shortly said, we want to make sure that you are always notified as fast as possible, within reason and technical feasibility.

# Automations

Automations operate on the simple principle of "When this happens, do that," making them extremely useful for monitoring changes on websites without manual effort. You can create and edit automations via the Automation Canvas, available for every monitor you create.

The automation canvas lets you create automations. Each automation is divided into two sections, *Conditions* on the left and *Actions* on the right. Conditions determine when the automation runs, actions determine what the automation will do.

# Conditions

Conditions serve as the trigger point or the "when this happens" part of an automation. They specify the exact scenario under which you want something to occur. For example, a condition could be set to trigger when the price of a monitored item drops, or meets a specific threshold.&#x20;

You can modify or add new conditions using the condition editor. It lets you specify which of your monitor's data selections are expected to change, and in which way.

## How do conditions work?

Every time Monitoro opens a webpage, it [extracts data](/reference/monitors), and compares it to its previous value. This comparison is using the conditions you specified, to surface only the exact update you are interested in. A simple condition for comparison, "*changes*", checks that the currently extracted data is different than what was monitored before.

But you can also look for increases or decreases in value, and express them in as much specificity as you want.&#x20;

You can also combine conditions, for example to be notified if a new comment is posted *containing* a specific keyword and having *more* than 100 upvotes.

## Understanding Conditions: Items vs. Lists

When setting conditions to track changes or specific scenarios, it's crucial to understand the two main types: **Item Conditions** and **List Conditions**.

* **Item Conditions** are used when you want to monitor changes in a single piece of data. For instance, you could set a condition to alert you if a product's price drops below $50. This is about looking for changes in one specific value.
* **List Conditions**, on the other hand, are more about dealing with a group of items. You could use these conditions in two ways:

  1. To monitor changes to the list as a whole, like getting notified when a new item is added.
  2. To set criteria for individual items within that list. For example, you might want to be alerted only if a newly added product's price is less than $100.

  This distinction helps you create more tailored and efficient monitoring for different scenarios, ensuring you get the most relevant notifications based on your needs.

## Which conditions can I use?

Depending on the type of monitoring you're focusing on, Monitoro offers a range of conditions for both items and lists. These conditions are designed to cater to specific scenarios, ensuring you filter irrelevant changes and stay updated with the most relevant information. # Item conditions

Item conditions apply on a single piece of data. For instance, you could set a condition to alert you if a product's price drops below $50. This is about looking for changes in one specific value. Monitoro offers several conditions you can use to filter changes down to the updates that matter to you. Let's look at item conditions.

## Changes

Use this when you want to be notified of any change in the data value, regardless of what the change is.

* **Matches Condition:** Anything changes in the product description.
* **Doesn't Match:** The product description remains the same.

Each of these conditions can be tailored to fit the specific needs of your monitoring setup, ensuring you're only notified about the changes that truly matter to you.

## Changes from

This section is designed for notifications based on specific changes from a known value. Ideal for tracking transitions from a particular state.

* **Matches Condition**: The account balance changes from "Under Review" to any active state.
* **Doesn't Match**: The account balance remains "Under Review".

## Changes to

Use this segment when you're interested in knowing when a field changes to a particular value, regardless of its previous state.

* **Matches Condition**: The temperature setting changes to "Eco Mode."
* **Doesn't Match**: The temperature setting remains unchanged or changes to a different value.

## Drops

Notifies you about any decrease in value, compared to its previous state.

* **Matches Condition:** Yesterday's sale was 200 units, today's is 150.
* **Doesn't Match:** Yesterday's sale was 150 units, today's is 200.

## Increases

Opposite of Drops, it alerts you of any increase.

* **Matches Condition:** Customer reviews are 205 today compared to 200 yesterday.
* **Doesn't Match:** Customer reviews dropped from 205 yesterday to 200 today.

## Contains

Ideal for text analysis and keyword matching. Alerts you if the specified text starts containing a certain word or phrase.

* **Matches Condition:** Product description now includes the word "durable."
* **Doesn't Match:** Product description doesn't mention "durable."

## Does Not Contain

Use this to be alerted when a particular word or phrase is removed from the specified text.

* **Matches Condition:** The word "fragile" is removed from the product's packaging instructions.
* **Doesn't Match:** The packaging instructions still include the word "fragile."

## Is

Perfect for exact matches. Notify when a piece of data exactly matches your specified condition.

* **Matches Condition:** The status is "Delivered."
* **Doesn't Match:** The status is "In Transit."

## Is Not

Alerts you when data changes to any other state than the one specified.

* **Matches Condition:** The status changes from "In Transit" to anything else.
* **Doesn't Match:** The status remains "In Transit."

## Is Empty

When you want to be alerted if a specified piece of data disappears or becomes empty.

* **Matches Condition:** Product Description is "" (an empty string).
* **Doesn't Match:** Product Description is "This product is great for outdoor activities."

## Is Not Empty

Use this condition if you need to know when data appears or when an empty field gets filled.

* **Matches Condition:** Product Name is "Mountain Bike."
* **Doesn't Match:** Product Name is "" (an empty string).

## More Than

Set this condition to keep an eye on values rising above a certain threshold.

* **Matches Condition:** Price is $101 when you set the condition at $100.
* **Doesn't Match:** Price is $99 with the condition set at $100.

## More Than Previous By At Least

Ideal for tracking significant increases from a previous value by a minimum amount.

* **Matches Condition:** Price changed from $50 to $75, condition is set for an increase of at least $20.
* **Doesn't Match:** Price changed from $50 to $65, with the condition set for an increase of at least $20.

## **More Than Previous By At Most**

Ideal for tracking increases from a previous value but not exceeding a specific maximum increase.

* Matches Condition: Price changed from $100 to $120, condition is set for an increase of at most $25.
* Doesn't Match: Price changed from $100 to $130, with the condition set for an increase of at most $25.

## **More Than Previous By Exactly**

Useful for identifying when an increase from a previous value matches an exact amount.

* Matches Condition: Price changed from $200 to $250, condition is set for an increase of exactly $50.
* Doesn't Match: Price changed from $200 to $260, with the condition set for an increase of exactly $50.

## Less Than

Alerts you when values drop below a specified point.

* **Matches Condition:** Stock count is 9 when you're watching for less than 10 units.
* **Doesn't Match:** Stock count is 11 with a watch set for less than 10 units.

## **Less Than Previous by At Least**

Triggers when a value drops below a specified point by at least a certain margin.

* Matches Condition: Price dropped from $300 to $240, with a condition set for a decrease of at least $50.
* Doesn't Match: Price dropped from $300 to $260, when watching for a decrease of at least $50.

## **Less Than Previous by At Most**

Activates when a value diminishes but does not exceed a specified decrease.

* Matches Condition: Inventory decreased from 500 to 470 pieces, with a condition for a decrease of at most 30.
* Doesn't Match: Inventory decreased from 500 to 460 pieces, exceeding the at most 30 pieces decrease condition.

## **Less Than Previous by Exactly**

Engages when a value decreases by an exact amount.

* Matches Condition: Membership count dropped from 150 to 100, condition is set for a decrease of exactly 50 members.
* Doesn't Match: Membership count dropped from 150 to 95, despite the condition being set for a decrease of exactly 50 members.

# List conditions

Let's break down the idea of list conditions and subconditions in a way that's easy to understand. You can think of list conditions as the rules that apply to a list as a whole. If a list meets these conditions, then we say the list "matches" these conditions. Now, to refine what we're looking for within that list, we use subconditions. These are like more specific rules that apply to each item inside the list.

## Conditions

### New Item

Triggered when a new item is added that fits predefined requirements. This condition allows for dynamic lists, focusing on the addition of items that adhere to specific characteristics.

**Example:** For a list tracking inventory, the condition might specify that the new item must be a kitchen appliance. If a microwave (a kitchen appliance) is added to the list, this condition is met.

### First Item

This condition is met when the first item in the list matches specific requirements. It's useful when the sequence of items matters, and the initial item sets the context or requirement.

**Example:** In a list of names, the first item condition could be that the name must start with "A". If the first name is "Alice," the condition is met.

### Last Item

This focuses on the last item in a list, ensuring it adheres to specified criteria. It's particularly relevant when the final position holds importance, like a concluding statement or summary.

**Example:** For a list of numbers, the last item condition might be that it has to be even. If the list ends with "24," the condition is satisfied.

### Any Item

This provides flexibility by only requiring at least one item in the list to meet the set criteria. It's beneficial when the presence of a particular trait is necessary, but its position is irrelevant.

**Example:** In a collection of colors, the condition might be the inclusion of "blue." If any item is "blue," regardless of its position, the condition is met.

### Every Item

For this condition to be met, each item in the list must comply with the specified subconditions. It's useful for ensuring uniformity or consistency within a collection.

**Example:** In a list of passwords, the condition could be that every password must contain at least one number. If all passwords comply, the condition is achieved.

## Integrating List Data in Automations and Alerts

When we use these list conditions, we also get a handy tool called "Condition Matching Item", available in the Actions section. When running an automation, you can feed it with items that match the condition. This allows us to specifically focus on the items in our list that actually meet our conditions, essentially filtering the list down to just the items we're interested in.

By thinking about list conditions and subconditions this way, we gain a powerful method to filter and work with lists, ensuring our automations match the exact scenario we are interested.

# Actions

Once a condition is met, actions dictate the "do that" part of the automation. Actions are what you want the system to do automatically when the specified conditions occur. Monitoro supports multiple integrations. These can include:

* [**Alerts**](/reference/automations/actions/alerts)**:** Notifying you through an email, a push notification or a message in a channel. You can compose the text using our Text Composer.

Adding an action is done through the Action Editor, which you can open by clicking on *add an action* to add a new one, or click on any action in the right section of the Automation Canvas to edit it.

In the Action editor, you can choose a category, a particular action such as "Insert a new row", and then set it up accordingly. You can switch actions or accounts anytime by clicking on the little close icon next to them. Your action settings will be preserved to the extent of the possible.

Setting up an action is pretty simple, just instruct Monitoro about your destination. In the case of Discord for example, you pick a channel, a message and that's it.&#x20;

### Text Composer

The Text Composer is an intuitive editor designed to help you create text using information from your monitor. It employs a block-based approach, akin to platforms like Notion. This system allows for the incorporation of two distinct types of blocks to craft the content sent in your notifications.

#### *Paragraph*

A paragraph block is simply a piece of text that can use data from your monitor. When an action using this text is executed, data from your monitor will be used to create the final text of the alert.

In order to insert data from your monitor, click on the blue button titled *+ data* in the top right of the paragraph block, and then choose any of your data selections.

#### *Diff*

A diff block highlights changes in text, highlighting deletions, additions, and unchanged content. Just choose data from your monitor, and Monitoro will compare the previous extraction with the current one and generate a diff accordingly, sending it along with your alert.

### Data Connector

The Data Connector enables efficient data mapping from your monitor to a tabular destination, such as a spreadsheet or database. The setup interface is divided into three main columns:

**Specify the destination in the left column**. This varies based on the selected application and action. Examples include:

* * Spreadsheet column names (A, B, C ..) for spreadsheet actions like *Insert row*, *Update row* and *Upsert row*.
  * Direct cell references (A1, B2, C3) for *Set a cell value*.
  * Field names (e.g. *price*, *name ...*) for database activities such as *Insert row*, *Update row*, and *Upsert row*.

* **Specify the data to populate your destination in the middle column**: Each field in this area functions as a Text Composer, allowing the integration of both monitored data and manually inputted text.

* **Format your data in the right column.** By default, the data is formatted as text, which means it's kept in the form it was found. However, you can choose to have this data converted to a number format. Why switch to number format? It's mainly for ensuring that the data fits seamlessly into your spreadsheets, databases, or other tools you use, like making sure your formulas work as expected.\
  For example, if your data includes a value like "1,234" or "$50," choosing the number format will tidy these up to "1234" and "50." Our system is also smart enough to recognize text like "10K" and understand you want "10000."

## App accounts

You might want Monitoro to post updates in your Discord server or add data to a Google Sheet without you doing anything manually. To make this magic happen, you'd set up an app account within Monitoro for each tool you want to connect.  When you authorize a 3rd party app to connect with Monitoro, you are giving Monitoro permission to send information directly to these apps on your behalf.

You can connect new app accounts to Monitoro in the [Apps](https://monitoro.app/app) page. Here's a simple breakdown of how it works:

1. **Choose the App:** Select the app you wish to integrate with Monitoro, such as Slack or Google Sheets.
2. **Authorize:** Give Monitoro permission to access your account on that app.
3. **Select in Automation:** When setting up an automation in Monitoro, you'll choose which app account it should use. This tells Monitoro exactly where to send data or what actions to perform.

By linking your app accounts, Monitoro knows who it's talking to and has the right to act on your behalf, ensuring a seamless flow of information from your Monitoro alerts directly to your other applications.

# Monitoro Extension

The Monitoro Extension integrates with the Monitoro platform and gives your browser superpowers:

1. **Automatically Check Websites**: Like having a vigilant friend who constantly watches web pages for you, the extension uses a special section called the *Runner* tab. This is how monitoro visits monitored websites on your behalf, tirelessly ensuring you don't miss out on anything important.
2. **Select Data for Custom Monitors**: When setting up a custom monitor, the extension lets you use our user-friendly data selection flow to easily choose which information matters to you—be it price details, news updates, or weather forecasts.
3. **Stay on Top of Monitoring Activity:** Enjoy the convenience of a live Activity Feed directly in your workspace by opening the extension next when you're in the Monitoro app – keep track of everything happening in your Monitoro account in real-time without missing a beat!
4. **Automated Data Extraction & Monitoring**: The extension also lets you use these features through our API, which means you can integrate these monitoring and data extraction capabilities into your own projects, all without manual intervention. ## Runner

The runner is a fixed tab that appears at the top left of your browser window when you have active monitors. This is where monitoring happens, and where webpages are visited on a regular basis. This tab is reopened automatically if you close it, So don't worry if you do it by mistake, we'll make sure to pick up monitoring where it left off.

### Initial Extraction

As described in the *Initial extraction* section of the [Monitors](/reference/monitors) documentation, upon creating a monitor in Monitoro, an initial extraction occurs to ensure the setup is functional. This process involves opening a separate browser tab automatically. This tab facilitates the first extraction pass and will close itself once the initial extraction completes.

## Activity Feed

The Monitoro Activity Feed offers users a dynamic and up-to-the-minute look at webpage data extractions, alerts and task automations as they occur. You can access it in two simple steps:

1. Open [Monitoro](https://monitoro.app)
2. Click on the Monitoro extension icon to activate it.
3. This will bring up the live feed, allowing you to monitor your extractions and automation runs in real time.

## Getting started with Monitoro API

Monitoro API is designed to extend your projects and automations with the ability to retrieve data from any website in your personal browser, with minimal scraping or even coding experience.&#x20;

## Authentication

All Monitoro API endpoints use a Bearer token authentication. During the alpha phase you can request a token by contacting us at <support@monitoro.co>.

Once you get your API token from us, send an `Authorization` header with `Bearer mtat-abc123` with every request you make.

## Extract data from URL

*<https://api.monitoro.app/v1/monitors/{monitorId}/extract>*

**How does it work?** This method lets you extract or scrape data directly using your own browser. Using the data selection and automation from any of your monitors, this method will extract data and optionally run your monitor's automations with it.

First, open your monitor in [Monitoro](#https-api.monitoro.app-v1-monitors-monitorid-extract) and retrieve the monitorId from the address at the top. It is the long text after `https://monitoro.app/monitors/...`.

Make sure your browser is running and the extension is installed & logged in before calling this API method, since it is made to let you automate your browser. Extraction will fail immediately if you don't have the extension running and you will receive an error response.

You then have two options to call this method's endpoint:

#### Extract & Run automations

The `Extract data from URL` method extracts data and sends it to your automations if `noIngest` is `false` or not defined.

* This endpoint does not wait for the automations to run and returns data as soon as it is extracted.
* &#x20;You have access to the full array of apps supported by Monitoro.

Example payload:

#### Extract only

The `Extract data from URL` can also simply return data without running automations. Specify `noIngest` as `true` to achieve this.

* Make sure to respect your local laws and the terms of the website. Example payload:&#x20;

In both cases the endpoint will return data it extracted, and any error encountered during the process.

**Error status codes**

This API can return responses with the status 200, 400, 404 and 500. Please look at the response block below, and click on the dropdown with "200" in it to see Error codes.

# Create an Instant Monitor

First, make sure to [create an account and install the extension](/overview/start-here).

Monitors in monitoro are watching websites and webpages for changes around the clock, sending you alerts and running your automations. For example, a monitor can track a product page and send you an alert every time the price changes.&#x20;

## Creating your first monitor

To create a monitor, open Explore and choose for a template that fits your requirements. Click on it, then on *Launch monitor.*

Each monitor works by tracking webpages for changes. Monitoro can locate the specific webpage link you need. All you need is to fill in the details for the monitor you want. For example, let's monitor new tweets containing a given keyword.

First step is to look it up in the Explore page and then launch it.

Then we choose which keywords to track. We'll add in 3 keywords, one per row, which results in 3 monitored webpages. Monitoro has a feature whereby it automatically generates the link of the webpage to monitor, based on the details you will enter here. We call it the [URL Builder](/reference/monitors/webpages)*.* Click on *Connect app.*

Now we choose where to receive an alert when a new post is found. By default, you can choose Monitoro Alerts which work on your computer and on your phone. You can also connect any of the apps we support and choose it as a destination for alerts. You can then customize the text of the alert to your heart's content. When you're done, click *Launch* and you're all set! 🎉

A tab will open to perform an initial extraction, and from this point on Monitoro will check these webpages [periodically](/reference/monitors/how-monitoring-runs) and alert you when a new post matching your keywords is posted.

### FAQ

### How can I monitor more webpages?

In the example above, we were tracking posts matching keywords. Let's say we identified new keywords later on that we want to track. How can that be done?

Open your monitor by accessing it either from your [Dashboard](https://monitoro.app/dashboard) or your [Monitors](https://monitoro.app/monitors) page, and then choose *Add pages*. You will get a screen similar to when you first created your monitor, where you can add more entries to monitor (each corresponding to a webpage). When you're done, click on *Add* and your monitor will automatically start tracking these new webpages as well, and send you alerts accordingly.

### How to customize alerts and automations?

Your instant monitor sets up alerts by default. After you launch it, you can not only customize the default alert, but also add a wide array of automations as supported by Monitoro.  Make sure to open your monitor either from from your [Dashboard](https://monitoro.app/dashboard) or your [Monitors](https://monitoro.app/monitors) page to add or edit automations. Learn more below:

### I have a lot of webpages to monitor, is there a convenient way to add them?

The URL Builder, the screen you see when adding pages to a monitor supports multiple ways to add new rows, in addition to simply typing details in.

#### Paste from a spreadsheet&#x20;

You can copy entire columns from a spreadsheet and paste them into the URL builder. Monitoro will automatically interpret the details you pasted in and generate as many links as needed for each row.

#### Paste URLs directly (experimental)

You can also paste compatible URLs directly into the URL builder, which will try to extract the details needed and reformat the URL as needed by the monitor template you're launching. This feature is currently experimental and might not always result in accurate links. Please review the links (and open them if necessary) before proceeding with launching a monitor.

### How often is my monitor checking webpages for changes?

All the webpages you're monitoring are opened and checked for changes in sequence, one after the other at the speed specified in your chosen plan.&#x20;

A monitored webpage will then be opened again after all the other monitors have been opened as well, looping endlessly over your monitored webpages.

The specific duration until a page is opened a second time depends on several factors, such as how many webpages you're monitoring and external factors such as website loading time.&#x20;

Here are some approximate ranges to give you a rule of thumb.

To create a monitor, the very first step is to open the webpage you want to start monitoring, then click on the monitoro extension, on *Monitor this page* and then on *Create a new monitor*.

# Selecting data

First, make sure to [create a monitor for your webpage](/guides/create-a-custom-monitor).

Monitoro allows you to monitor specific parts of a webpage for changes. In order to do so, make sure to open your monitor and click on *select data*.

## What data can I select?

Let's look at various kinds of data we can select and monitor, taking the Wikipedia main page as an example (but you can do this on any website).

### Text and numbers

You can select text of all kinds, either a short word, numbers, or paragraphs as well. For example here we will monitor the featured article:

### Re-selecting data

If the website changes, or if you want to target a different part of the webpage, you can reselect data.&#x20;

You can do so by clicking on the data that you want to re-select, clicking on reselect and then targeting a different part of the webpage.

### How can I select data from multiple pages?

If you add more webpages of the *same kind* to your monitor, let's say many product pages from the *same ecommerce website*, then data will be automatically selected for you on these new pages.&#x20;

While it is possible to add webpages from *different websites*, or that have different layouts, you have to re-select data from these websites. This is an advanced scenario that we do not recommend. Instead, consider creating a monitor *per website*.

## How do I set up an alert in Monitoro?

To set up an alert in Monitoro, follow these steps:

1. Create a monitor and select the data you want to monitor.
2. Open your monitor in monitoro.app.

4. In the Condition section, determine when the automation should run. By default, it will run every time monitored data changes.
5. In the Action section, set up the automation to send an alert using the data you're monitoring.

## How do I add more webpages to my monitor?

To add more webpages to your monitor, you can do so after finishing setting up your monitor, by opening it in [monitoro.app](https://monitoro.app) and clicking on *add pages.*

If the additional webpages are of the same kind, like many product pages from the same ecommerce website, data will be automatically selected for you on these new pages. However, if the webpages are from different websites or have different layouts, you will need to re-select data for these websites.

## How often can Monitoro check for updates on a webpage?

Yes, Monitoro can handle websites that require login for monitoring. Monitoring in your browser enables you to monitor websites behind a login in an absolutely secure manner without ever sharing credentials or authentication data with Monitoro, as it's all handled by your own browser. All you need to do is to be logged in the website you want to monitor.

## How do I troubleshoot issues with Monitoro?

# Monitoro Alerts App

## I cannot enable alerts in Monitoro Setup

During setup, you might encounter an issue when enabling Monitoro Alerts. Identify your issue below for troubleshooting steps.

### "Looks like push notifications are currently disabled."

If you're not receiving push notifications as expected, it might be due to browser permissions being accidentally disabled. Follow these steps to check and enable push notification permissions:

#### For Chrome:

1. Open Chrome and click on the three dots in the upper-right corner to open the menu.
2. Navigate to `Settings > Privacy and security > Site Settings`.
3. Scroll down to `Permissions` and click on `Notifications`.
4. Look for the Monitoro site in the list and click on it.
5. Change the permission to `Allow` for notifications.

#### For Edge:

1. Open Edge and click on the three dots in the upper-right corner to access the menu.
2. Go to `Settings > Cookies and site permissions > Notifications`.
3. Under `Allow`, look for the Monitoro site, or click on `Add` to manually add the site.
4. Enter the site URL and click `Add`, then set the permission to `Allow`.

#### For Brave:

1. Open the Brave browser and click on the menu icon in the upper-right corner (three horizontal lines).
2. Select `Settings` from the menu.
3. Navigate to `Privacy and security > Site and Shields Settings`.
4. Scroll down to `Permissions` and click on `Notifications`.
5. If the Monitoro site is blocked, click on it and change the permission to `Allow`.
6. Additionally, ensure that `Use Google Cloud Messaging for push notifications` is enabled under `Privacy and security` options if not enabled already.

This ensures that your browser permits Monitoro to send push notifications, keeping you up to date with alerts.

### "We're having trouble enabling push notifications."

Do you use Brave or another chrome derivative? You need to enable Google Cloud Push messaging in your settings.

1. Open the Brave browser on your computer.
2. Click on the menu icon located in the upper-right corner of the browser window (three horizontal lines or dots).
3. Select "Settings" from the menu.
4. In the Settings window, navigate to the "Privacy and security" section on the left sidebar.
5. Click on "Site and Shields Settings."
6. Scroll down to the "Permissions" section and click on "Notifications."
7. Locate the "Google Cloud Messaging" option.
8. Enable the toggle next to "Google Cloud Messaging" to turn on the feature.
